Bierko made his mark in New York theatre as the Tony-nominated Harold Hill in the recent Broadway revival of The Music Man. Shortly after, he starred in the short-lived musical Thou Shalt Not. Off-Broadway stints include Fired! Biggs, who took part in the December reading of the Daniel Goldfarb comedy, will star as "lovable schmuck" Hershel Klein in the Off-Broadway production, according to a casting notice. James Lapine will direct the play, which concerns the effects Biggs' character has "on a young Jewish couple of lapsed faith." Casting is currently being conducted for the roles of Ben, Hannah and Rachel.
Playwright Goldfarb has also written Adam Baum and the Jew Movie, which won the 2000 NY Newsday Oppenheimer Award, and Modern Orthodox has been optioned by Bob Balaban's Chicago Films. Goldfarb's Sarah, Sarah was presented at the Manhattan Theatre Club this past spring.
Modern Orthodox is set to begin performances Nov. 11 at the 499 seat Dodger Theatre at Worldwide Plaza. Opening night is scheduled for Dec. 6.
