Lucie Tiberghein directs the season opener for Rattlestick. Opening is Sept. 20. The limited engagement ends Oct. 9.
Wright again sets his latest work in Minnesota's Pine City, the setting for his previous works Orange Flower Water and Melissa Arctic. The Pavilion takes place in the titular 100-year-old dance hall where "the lives of ex-sweethearts Peter Mollberg and Kari Hermanson — and dozens of other characters, as well — intertwine once more to form a pattern of love and loss," according to production notes.
Bogardus (Falsettos, Love! Valour! Compassion!), James (Titanic, The Wild Party) and Jennifer Mudge (Reckless, The Stendahl Syndrome) star in the new work.
The design team features Takeshi Kata (sets), Mimi O'Donnal (costumes) and Matthew Richards (lighting). Christophe Tiberghein provides original music. Paige van den Berg serves as production stage manager.
The work made its world premiere in 2000 at Pittsburgh's City Theatre Company and has played several regional runs before coming to New York. Playwright Wright has also penned Main Street, Recent Tragic Events and Molly's Delicious. The scribe is also known for television writing including episodes of HBO's "Six Feet Under" and ABC's "Lost." The new Rattlestick season at continues with Michael John Garcés' Acts of Mercy and Roberto Aguiree-Sacasa's Dark Matters.
Tickets to The Pavilion at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place (between West 11th & Perry Streets), are available by calling (212) 868-4444. For more information, visit www.rattlestick.org.
