News Crazy for the Dog Begins New Off-Broadway Run at Bouwerie Lane Theatre, July 11 Christopher Boal's dark comedy Crazy for the Dog begins its seven-week commercial Off-Broadway extension at the Bouwerie Lane Theatre, July 11.

Eric Parness directs the new drama presented by Rachel Reiner Productions LLC in association with Jean Cocteau Repertory at the downtown Manhattan stage through Aug. 26.

Crazy for the Dog "exposes one family's deepest secret, a secret that binds together two siblings even as it threatens to destroy them," according to show materials. "Racing through a lifetime of lies and pent-up blame, they cross New York to save not only a defenseless dog, but also their troubled relationship."

The cast features Patrick Melville, Wrenn Schmidt, Ryan Tramont, and Christine Verleny. The design team includes Matthew Allar (set), Sidney Shannon (costumes), Pamela Kupper (lighting) and Nick Moore (sound).

Playwright Boal is the creator and author of "The Continuing Adventures of Dick Danger," a late-night comedy/adventure serial which ran in New York. The BMI Musical Theatre Workshop member — who was also a part of Ensemble Studio Theatre's playwrights lab — also created the acclaimed short film "Walking Charley."

Director Parness serves as the artistic director of Resonance Ensemble. For the company, he has staged Sophocles' Antigone, Gorky's The Lower Depths, and world premiere productions of Bruce Cohen's Strange Bedfellows and Larry Loebell's La Tempestad.
