Matilda the Musical, originally seen at Stratford-upon-Avon's Courtyard Theatre, is set to transfer to the West End. The Royal Shakespeare Company will present the new musical, written by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, at the Cambridge Theatre starting Oct. 18, with an official opening Nov. 22.

Matilda the Musical is based on Roald Dahl’s story about a young girl with extraordinary powers. It’s directed by Matthew Warchus with choreography by Peter Darling.

Many adult cast members from the original production will reprise their roles at the Cambridge Theatre, led by Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull, Paul Kaye as Mr. Wormwood, Josie Walker as Mrs. Wormwood and Lauren Ward as Miss Honey. The cast will also include Marc Antolin, Verity Bentham, Michael Kent, Melanie La Barrie, Matthew Malthouse, Alastair Parker, Nick Searle and Emily Shaw.

Here, Warchus, Minchin and Kelly talk about the musical's themes and adapting Dahl's story for the stage. They also offer a look into rehearsals as well as footage from the production at the Courtyard Theatre.
