The show's Tony-nominated star, Gavin Creel, and fellow tribe member Michael James Scott organized the event, telling whatsonstage.com they did it to do "something creative with [our] incredible tribe mates of Hair." The evening is described as "a musical journey of pop, rock, folk, musical theatre and gospel music."
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the AIDS relief charity TheatreMAD.
This production of Hair first opened on Broadway in 2009 after a successful run in Central Park in the summer of 2008. The Broadway production, which closed at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre June 27, won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
Much of the original Broadway cast, and a few Broadway replacements, came to the Gielgud Theatre for the London mounting of the show, which officially opened April 14 and is scheduled to run through September 4.
