As the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Major Barbara winds down, the Yale Repertory Theatre is gearing up for a production of another George Bernard Shaw play about a woman, her three children and their estranged father — the lighthearted comedy You Never Can Tell.

The production opens Yale Rep's 2001-02 season Sept. 20 and plays through Oct. 13. Directed by artistic director Stan Wojewodski Jr., it stars Sandra Shipley, who appeared at the theatre last season in The Way of the World.

Shipley plays Mrs. Lanfrey Clandon, a progressive Victorian woman whose daughter Gloria and her love-struck suitor, Valentine, reunite the three Clandon kids with their father while on a seaside holiday.

Also in the cast are Shannon Koob (Gloria), John Hansen (Valentine), Mireille Enos (Dolly), Neal Dodson (Philip), Martin Rayner (Crampton), Michael Allinson (Walter the Waiter), Thomas James O'Leary (McComas) and Richmond Hoxie (Bohun).

John Coyne (sets), Katherine Roth (costumes), Stephen Strawbridge (lights) and Mimi Epstein (sound) are the design team. A 1998 Off-Broadway revival at the Roundabout Theatre starred Robert Sean Leonard and Charles Keating.
