The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned his Carnegie Hall tribute concert on March 31 into a memorial event. The line-up of performers for the night includes Cyndi Lauper, Jakob Dylan, Bettye LaVette and The Roots.
Performers also slated to feature are Perry Farrell, Robyn Hitchcock, The Mountain Goats, Ann Wilson of Heart and Tony Visconti (House Band). Presented by Michael Dorf, The Music of David Bowie concert will feature over 20 artists and take place in the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at 8 PM.
This is the 11th Music Of charity concert presented by Dorf, planned well in advance of the singer's shock death on Jan. 10 – the same date that tickets went on sale to the public.
"The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past seven months, into a memorial concert," states a description on the show's website. "While the series has featured surprise appearances and performances of honorees several times in the past, this year's concert will certainly be remembered as a poignant celebration of his music by his friends, peers and fans. We are all deeply saddened by this news. The timing of our public on-sale date is bizarre in its timing and the show is taking on many more emotions. RIP David and may God's love be with you."
100% of the proceeds from the evening will go to the following charities serving underprivileged youth: Grammy In the Schools, Young Audiences New York, Church Street School for Music and Art, and The American Symphony Orchestra.
