Wiest first revealed the news to Playbill.com during the April 10 opening night of the new Woody Allen musical Bullets Over Broadway. Wiest famously starred as Helen Sinclair in the film and earned an Academy Award for her performance.

She characterized Rasheeda Speeking as "a wonderful new play" and stated that she hoped to star in the play next year for the New Group with Cynthia Nixon making her directorial debut on the project. The New Group has not officially announced the 2014-15 season.

The play had its Chicago world premiere earlier this year at the Rivendell Theatre Ensemble.

Here's how it was billed: "A white physician attempts to oust his black receptionist by enlisting a white female coworker as a spy. Tensions rise as relations between the two women quickly deteriorate, turning their once-cordial workplace into a battlefield of innuendo, paranoia, and passive aggression. With trademark wit and close observation, Joel Drake Johnson mines the subtleties of 'post-racial' America to explore what we are really saying when we refuse to talk about race."
