Classic Arts News Dale Norris, Big-Band Saxophonist, Dies at 68 Dale Norris, an alto saxophonist who played with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, died on June 28, the Associated Press reports. He was 68.
Norris grew up in Kansas and studied at Kansas State University. In the 1960s, he performed and recorded with Kenton's band and toured with the Tommy Dorsey and Henry Mancini bands, among other groups.

Later, Norris moved to Tuscon, Arizona, and taught band in the middle schools there. He continued to perform and record locally.
