Winter may not be quite the affair in Dallas that it is at the South Pole, but Dallas Theater Center hopes to bring the Arctic chill to the Kalita Humphreys Theatre stage Feb. 16-March 12 with the American premiere of David Young's Inexpressible Island. DTC artistic associate Preston Lane directs.

During Robert Falcon Scott's 1912 Antarctic expedition and the race to the South Pole, six men are cut off from the main group in the beautiful, but uncharted frozen land at the bottom of the earth. Inexpressible Island received its world premiere at Toronto's Necessary Angel Theater Company and has been produced elsewhere in Canada and in Europe. Young scripted 1999's Stratford Festival hit, Glenn, as well as Love is Strange and Fire (with Paul Ledoux).

Starring as the six stranded explorers are Mark Boyett as Levick, Kelly Cole as Abbott, Rufus Collins (An Ideal Husband, The Homecoming) as Campbell, James Crawford as Dickason, Adrian La Tourelle as Preistley and Russell Pickering as Browning.

Designing Inexpressible Island are New York City's Atlantic Theatre designers Walt Spangler (sets) and Robert Perry (lighting) with Claudia Stephens (costumes) and Shane Rettig (sound).

Tickets are $52-$16. The Kalita Humphreys Theater is located at 3636 Turtle Creek Boulevard. For tickets, call the Dallas Theater Center at (214) 522-8499. The Dallas Theater Center is on the web at http://www.dallastheatercenter.org. -- By Chrsitine Ehren
