Following the series opener — Adam Bock's Swimming in the Shallows — the company's uptown McGinn/Cazale Theatre (located above The Promenade Theatre) will be home to the closer, The Dear Boy through Aug. 27.
Michael John Garcés (The Triple Happiness, Finer Noble Gases) directs the work about an English teacher on the verge of retirement who "questions the life he didn't live [when] unexpected encounters with two students help him realize who he is and what he has accomplished."
The cast features T. Scott Cunningham (Wintertime, Love! Valour! Compassion!), Daniel Gerroll (Plenty, An Experiment With an Air Pump), Dan McCabe (Trust) and Susan Pourfar (The Last Sunday in June) — who also appeared in Swimming in the Shallows.
The Dear Boy design team includes Wilson Chin (scenic), Amela Baksic (costume), Ben Stanton (lighting) and Sunil Rajan (sound).
The Uptown series debuted in 2002 with three American plays — Joe Calarco's ...in the absence of spring..., Wendy Kesselman's The Notebook (directed by Evan Yionoulis) and Hunt Holman's Spanish Girl (dir. Erica Schmidt). The program returned last summer following renovations at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's The Mystery Plays starring Gaving Creel and Brooke Berman's The Triple Happiness with Ally Sheedy. Tickets to Second Stage Uptown at the McGinn/Cazale, Broadway and 76 Street, will be available by calling (212) 246-4422 or at the Second Stage box office at 307 West 43 Street.
