Classic Arts News Dancers' Union Withdraws Complaint Against Ballet West The American Guild of Musical Artists, which represents the dancers of Salt Lake City's Ballet West, has withdrawn a complaint about the company filed with the National Labor Relations Board earlier this year.
In May, AGMA filed a complaint with the NLRB claiming that Ballet West had not bargained in good faith. In the midst of contract talks, the union claimed, management withdrew its previous agreement to various contract provisions and refused to negotiate further.

AGMA president Alan Gordon said that the union had dropped the complaint in order to "give the company time to prove to us that they want to deal in good faith."

In a statement, a spokesperson for Ballet West speculated that AGMA had withdrawn its complaint because the NLRB had informed the union that it was preparing to rule in management's favor.

"We believe we have always operated in good faith and welcome the withdrawal of the charge," Ballet West executive director Johann Jacobs said. "We look forward to reaching a fair and mutually beneficial agreement with our dancers."

Contract talks will resume on August 15, according to the company.
