Classic Arts News Daniel Barenboim Receives Award From Berlin's Jewish Museum Conductor Daniel Barenboim has received the annual 'Award for Understanding and Tolerance' from Berlin's Jewish Museum, reports the Associated Press.
The award was presented at a gala attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and dozens of German political and business leaders.

Barenboim, music director of Berlin's Staatsoper opera house, was recognized for co-founding the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which is made up of young musicians from Israel, the Palestinian territories and neighboring Arab countries.

Former German President Richard von Weiszaecker praised Barenboim's "courage and shrewdness, his imagination and sobriety," according to the AP.
