News Daniel Breaker, Ariana DeBose, Hannah Elless and More Join Songwriter Daniel Maté Dec. 6 at 54 Below Daniel Maté and Friends, featuring the work of songwriter Daniel Maté in an evening of "eclectic, insightful and thoroughly contagious theatre songs," is held Dec. 6 at 54 Below.

The 11 PM concert features performances from Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange, Love's Labour's Lost), Heath Calvert (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Nobody Loves You), Ariana DeBose (Motown, Bring It On), Hannah Elless (Godspell, The Other Josh Cohen), Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812), Jason "SweetTooth" Williams (Bloodsong of Love) and Maté.

According to press notes, "With astonishing lyrical flair and musical influences ranging from Cole Porter to Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan to Wu-Tang Clan, Funkadelic to Soundgarden, Maté’s acclaimed and genre-hopping songs have been heralded by theatre veterans and a new generation of audiences alike."

Maté is the recipient of the 2013 Kleban Prize for Most Promising Musical Theatre Lyricist. He also received the Jonathan Larson Grant and the ASCAP Foundation's Cole Porter Award in 2010 for his music and lyrics. His song cycle, The Longing and the Short of It, is currently making its regional premiere at Arts Garage in Delray Beach, FL, and was also presented at Barrington Stage (directed by William Finn).
