Ten theatre pieces—including two world premieres—will play NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts as part of the venue’s fall 2019 season.
The lineup begins September 6 with the New York premiere of BAD NEWS! i was there… by JoAnne Akalaitis. The site-specific work takes audiences through spaces in the building beyond the auditorium, including lobbies and backstage areas, to pay tribute to various Messenger characters in ancient and classic drama.
Additional highlights include the U.S. premiere of White Noise from 2019 Tony Award nominee Daniel Fish (Oklahoma!), inspired by Don LeLillo’s 1985 novel (running September 20–22); the world premiere of MoveOpolis! Artistic Director Richard Move and director Ong Keng Seng’s dance piece The House of Forbidden Flowers (November 15–16); and the Builders Association’s Elements of Oz, an augmented reality experience that deconstructs the escapism and artistry of The Wizard of Oz (December 7–8).
Rounding out the fall season are Philippe Quesne’s three-part Welcome to Moleland, the U.S. premiere of Wild Bore from Zoe Coombs Marr, Ursula Martinez, and Adrienne Truscott, John Kelly’s solo dance piece Underneath the Skin, George Lewis’ Soundlines with the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Mette Ingvartsen–choreographed to come (extended), and Big Dance Theatre’s The Road Awards Us.For more information, visit NYUSkirball.org.
