News Daniel Tatar, Victoria Matlock, Jim Holdridge Among Cast of NYMF's Life Could Be a Dream Jukebox Musical The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) will present the New York premiere of Life Could Be a Dream, a 1960s jukebox musical from Roger Bean (creator of Off-Broadway's The Marvelous Wonderettes), beginning July 8 at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

The musical, created and directed by Roger Bean, is the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Production.

The Los Angeles cast — Doug Carpenter (NYMF's Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice) as Skip, Ryan Castellino (Pasadena Playhouse's Mask) as Wally, Jim Holdridge (Stomp) as Eugene and Daniel Tatar (Spelling Bee) as Denny — will reprise their roles. The role of Lois will be played by Victoria Matlock (The Marvelous Wonderettes).

Life Could Be a Dream, according to press notes, "tells the story of the singing group 'The Crooning Crabcakes' – a boy group hoping for fame and fortune in the Big Whopper Radio 'Dream-of-a-Lifetime Talent Search.' The boys are: egocentric slacker Denny, geeky soda jerk Eugene, church choir singer Wally and dreamboat Skip, trouble comes when Lois, a former Springfield High School Song Leader, arrives to put some polish on the boys. Denny and Wally both fall in love, Eugene falls apart and heartthrob Skip sends the whole situation spinning."

Life Could Be a Dream includes such popular songs from the 50s and 60s as "Earth Angel," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "The Wanderer," "Unchained Melody," "Runaround Sue" and "Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream)."

Other members of the creative team include choreographer Lee Martino, musical director Michael Borth, set designer Michael Carnahan, costume designer Bobby Pearce, lighting designer Grant Yeager and sound designer Cricket S. Myers. Performances will be offered July 8 at 7 PM, July 11 at 1 PM, July 13 at 5 PM and 9 PM, July 14 at 1 PM and July 14 at 5 PM.
