Regular Williamstown helmer Darko Tresnjak (The Skin of Our Teeth, The Winter's Tale, The Love of Three Oranges) will stage William Shakespeare's little-produced Pericles for San Diego's Globe Theatres. The episodic, symbolic drama plays Aug. 25-Oct.6 in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.
Pericles chronicles the adventures of the Prince of Tyre. Through an unfortunate shipwreck, Pericles wins the love of the Princess Thaisa, but by a trick of fate, he loses her and then his daughter, Marina. He later learns the women are not dead - Thaisa has become a nun and Marina, having survived a murder attempt, a teacher - and Pericles is reunited with his family in the final act.
Michael James Reed (Royal Shakespeare Company's Richard III with Antony Sher, Broadway's La Bete) stars as Pericles with Anna Belknap as Marina and Emmelyn Thayer as Thaisa. Also in the cast are D'Vorah Bailey, Andrew Borba (Cleon), Jefffrey Brick, Christian Casper, Liam Craig, David Raphael D'Agostini, Dar Fisher, Joanna Glushak (Dionyza), Christopher Gottschalk, Wunn Harmon, Brian Ibsen, Charles Janasz (Helicanus), Michael Kary, Antonie Knoppers, Eleanor O'Brien, Gregor Paslawsky, Gareth Saxe, Ned Schmidtke (Gower), Nanka Sturgis and Michele Vazquez.
