News Darren Ritchie, Paul Anthony Stewart and Kerry Butler Will Go Through the Door Dec. 19 Darren Ritchie (Wonderland) and Paul Anthony Stewart (The People in the Picture) will join Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler in the free reading of the new musical Through the Door Dec. 19 at the Roy Arias Theatre.

Through the Door is presented as part of the 2011 TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series. The musical has a book by Judy Freed and music and lyrics by Laurence Mark Wythe.

Butler (Xanadu, Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray) will play Charlotte, with Ritchie as her husband and Stewart as the romantic prince of her dreams, Jean-Pierre.

The ensemble will include Mary Jo Mecca, Julia Hirsch, Anthony Johnson and Nicholas Wuehrmann.

David Lee will direct the 7 PM presentation with musical direction by Stuart McMeans. Kenny Howard is producer.

According to the authors, "Through the Door tells the story of Charlotte, whose has a rocky relationship with workaholic husband, Lenny. Charlotte is transported through a kitchen door to 17th century Paris, where she meets the romantic prince, Jean-Pierre."

Readings take place at the Roy Arias Theatre, located at 300 W. 43rd Street, 5th Floor, Studio 500. Admission is free. For reservations phone (212) 714-7628 or e-mail [email protected].

The TRU Voices New Play Reading Series encourages submissions from emerging and established producers who are interested in testing the waters with a new work, and offers an opportunity for them to forge relationships with writers. TRU also accepts submissions from writers and tries to match them with a sponsoring producer for the series.
