David Alan Grier, the actor-comedian who has made five Broadway appearances over the years, including a Tony Award-nominated turn as Sportin’ Life in Porgy and Bess, returns to the theatre district July 6–8 for a stand-up gig at Caroline’s on Broadway comedy club.
He is scheduled to give five performances, 7:30 PM July 6–8, plus 10 PM July 7 and 8.
A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Grier is perhaps best known for his time on the Fox sketch comedy show In Living Color. He earned his first Tony nomination in 1982 for his Broadway debut, playing baseball player Jackie Robinson in the musical The First. He was one of the replacements for Nathan Lane in the 1996 revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and earned his second nomination in David Mamet’s 2009 drama Race. His third Tony nomination came in 2012 for The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess opposite Audra McDonald.
