Daniel Sullivan, who earned a Tony Award for directing Auburn's Proof, stages the 90-minute work that plays through Feb. 9 at the Krannert Center. Lost Lake was developed during the Eugene O'Neill Center's National Playwrights Conference this past summer.
The play features Jake Weber ("Dawn of the Dead," "Meet Joe Black" and "Medium") as Hogan and Opal Alladin ("United 93") as Veronica.
Here's how it's billed: "In Lost Lake, Veronica finds herself at a crossroads in life and decides to offer her children a respite from their urban milieu in a ramshackle cabin far from the distractions of New York City. When she leases a vacation home, she meets Hogan, the property owner, who is facing challenges of his own—challenges that will have an impact on her chances of getting time away from it all."
The presentation is part of University of Illinois' inaugural initiative "The Sullivan Project," which will "gather professional artists from across the country to produce a new play under the aegis of Illinois Theatre."
Sullivan, who was recently represented with the Broadway productions of Orphans and The Snow Geese, holds a Swanlund Chair at the University.
