News David Ives' Venus in Fur Tops List of Most-Produced Plays for 2013-14 David Ives' Tony Award-nominated play Venus in Fur, a steamy intellectual thriller that premiered at Classic Stage Company in 2010, leads Theatre Communications Group's list of the most-produced plays scheduled for the 2013-14 season.

TCG published the news in the October issue of American Theatre Magazine. Venus in Fur leads the dramatic pack with 22 productions scheduled. Since it ended its acclaimed Broadway return in 2012, Venus in Fur has been a popular staple among regional theatres.

Ives' sexually charged dark comedy centers on a frustrated playwright-director attempting to cast the leading role in his stage adaptation of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's "Venus in Furs," when a mysterious and talented young actress walks in the door with designs of her own. The play earned a 2012 Tony Award nomination.

Venus in Fur premiered to acclaim in early 2010 in a production by Off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company. It then transferred to a celebrated Broadway run in 2011-12. Nina Arianda became an overnight star for her turn as Vanda, earning the 2012 Tony Award for Best Actress. Hugh Dancy co-starred with Arianda in the Broadway production.

Of the top 14 plays produced, seven of them are by women playwrights. The top ten list expanded to 14 plays, with four works tying for the final slot.

Bruce Norris' Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Clybourne Park ranked second, with 16 productions scheduled, while David Lindsay Abaire's Good People came in with 14 productions, and Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities and Katori Hall's The Mountaintop tied with 13 productions scheduled.
