Off-Broadway News David Mamet’s The Penitent Debuts Feb. 8 Atlantic Theater Company presents the world-premiere staging Off-Broadway.

Performances begin February 8 for Atlantic Theater Company’s world-premiere staging of The Penitent by award-winning playwright David Mamet. The new play is directed by artistic director Neil Pepe, with an official opening night set for February 27.

The cast of The Penitent is made up of Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (The Walking Dead, The Machinist, The Wire), Chris Bauer (True Blood, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Wire), Jordan Lage (Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow, Race), and Rebecca Pidgeon (The Spanish Prisoner, The Old Neighborhood).

In Pulitzer Prize winner Mamet’s newest work, a renowned psychiatrist, played by Bauer, is asked to testify on behalf of a young patient. When he refuses, his career, ethics, and faith are thrown into question. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through March 19 at the Linda Gross Theater.

The Penitent features scenic design by Tim Mackabee, costume design by Laura Bauer, lighting design by Don Holder, and casting by Telsey + Company.
