News David Sheward Graduates to Executive Editor of Back Stage David Sheward, the longtime managing editor of the theatrical trade weekly Back Stage, has graduated to the position of executive editor.

The promotion took effect on Sept. 1. Sherry Eaker—who for many years held the title of editor-in-chief of the paper that her father, Ira Eaker, co-founded with Allen Zwerdling in 1960—will now be editor at large. Sheward began his tenure at Back Stage in 1984 as a part-time editorial assistant. He has been the trade's managing editor and chief theatre critic for more than ten years. He was for several years president of the Drama Desk, the organization of New York-based thatre critics, editors, and reporters. He is also the author of two books, "It's a Hit: The Back Stage Book of Longest-Running Broadway Shows" and "The Big Book of Show Business Awards," and appears on NY-1 News' theatre show "On Stage."
