News Davis Gaines Is Scrooge in Leslie Bricusse Musical, Dec. 9-24 Former Phantom of the Opera title player Davis Gaines will star in the Starbright Theatre's inaugural production, Scrooge, the Musical.

According to the actor's official website, Gaines will play the title role in the Leslie Bricusse musical, which will inaugurate Las Vegas' first professional Equity theatre. Scrooge will play the 321-seat Nevada theatre Dec. 9-24. Based on the classic Christmas tale, Bricusse's Scrooge features such tunes as "Christmas Joys," "Make the Most of This World," "Happiness," "I Like Life," "Good Times," "A Better Life" and "Thank You Very Much." The musical played the U.K.'s Alexandra Theatre in Nov. 1992. Bricusse also penned the score for the 1970 film "Scrooge" starring Albert Finney as the man haunted by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.

Davis Gaines received the Bay Area Critics' Award for Best Actor for his work as the Phantom in the West Coast production of The Phantom of the Opera, a role he repeated on Broadway. His other theatrical credits include the world premiere of Whistle Down the Wind as well as Encores! The Boys From Syracuse; Hello, Dolly!; Forbidden Broadway and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Gaines has sung with virtually every major symphony orchestra in North America, and his two solo recordings, "Against the Tide" and "All My Tomorrows: Songs of Sammy Cahn," are available on LAP Records.

The Starbright Theatre is located on 2215 Thomas Ryan Boulevard in Las Vegas, NV. Scrooge will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM; a special 6 PM performance will beheld Wednesday, Dec. 24.
