Davis' The Sex King to Receive Workshop Presentation at Berkshire Playwrights Lab

News   Davis' The Sex King to Receive Workshop Presentation at Berkshire Playwrights Lab The Berkshire Playwrights Lab will present a free reading of Bill C. Davis' latest play, The Sex King, June 10 at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.

Matthew Penn ("Law & Order," "The Sopranos") will direct the 8 PM workshop presentation. Playwright Davis informs Playbill.com that actors Kelly Hutchinson and Ray Abruzzo will perform the reading.

Davis, who is also the playwright of Mass Appeal, Avow and Dancing in the End-Zone, penned the new work, which according to press notes, "is about a character named Jeremiah Rockwell, who emerges as a confounding iconoclast: a sexually liberated pacifist, an activist, a family man, a romantic."

"I read an article in my local paper that prompted this play. Here in the hills of Connecticut, a man in his mid-sixties ran what he said was an escort service. The state said he was a pimp. During the trial, he was a local media darling who used his platform to express his long held pacifist views by speaking out against the bombing of Iraq in 1998," Davis explained in a statement.

Most recently, Tandy Cronyn, Brad Fraizer and Jefferson Slinkard appeared in a workshop of Davis' new play My Expatriate at the Manhattan Theatre Source.
