A Tony-winning success on Broadway, Alfred Uhry's The Last Night of Ballyhoo is scoring in Washington, DC as well. The Studio Theatre has extended its run of the comedy/drama through Feb. 21. The initial run for the show, which officially opened Jan. 10, had been Jan. 6-Feb. 7.

Originally commissioned for the Olympics Arts Festival in Atlanta, where the play debuted in summer 1996, Ballyhoo is set in that state, where prejudice against (and among) Southern Jews arises during plans for the German-Jewish community's annual Ballyhoo ball. It's also the time of the release of the film classic, Gone With The Wind, which takes place in Atlanta and deals with the Civil War and Reconstruction era. Ballyhoo centers on first cousins Lala Levy and Sunny Freitag, thrilled as they prepare for the social event of the season for the cream of Southern Jewish society.

Serge Seiden directs Kate Davis (Reba Freitag), Arthur Laupus (Adolph Freitag), Jason Nuzzo (Joe Farkas), Carolyn Pasquantonio (Sunny Freitag), Ben Hulan (Peachy Weil), Makela Spielman (Lala Levy) and Irene Ziegler (Boo Levy).

The design team includes James Kronzer (set), Marianne Meadows (lighting), Helen Huang (costume), Contessa Riggs (props) and Gil Thompson (sound).

Other Uhry works include Driving Miss Daisy and the libretto for the current Broadway musical, Parade. Tickets for Ballyhoo are $36.50-$19.50 and available by calling 202-332-3300. The Studio Theatre is located at1333 P Street.
