Performance Artist Tim Miller is returning to Washington DC for the area premiere of his latest solo work, Shirts & Skin at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. The limited engagement of this show by the controversial artist opens July 28 (with a benefit for the theatre) and runs through Aug. 8, with press night July 29.

"I am completely buzzed to come back to Woolly Mammoth with Shirts & Skin, Miller told Marketing and Public Relations Director Michael Kryioglou. "I have truly had some of my best performance experiences of anywhere in the world on Woolly's fierce and feisty stage with the wild audience that comes there!" In 1994, Miller performed My Queer Body, as part of Woolly Mammoth Theatre's Solo Artists Festival, and he returned in 1995 with Naked Breath..

A solo performer since 1980, the Los Angeles-based Miller was one of the "NEA Four" who made national headlines in 1990 after suing the National Endowment for the Arts on First Amendment grounds for withdrawing grants under political pressure. In Shirts & Skin, he "gets naked" and recalls moments in his development as a gay man, represented by shirts worn during those times. He will be available after each performance to greet the audience and sign copies of his book, "Shirts & Skin," published in 1997 by Alyson Publications.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is located at 1401 Church Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., five blocks east from the Dupont Circle Metro Red Line. For information call ProTix at (703) 218-6500.
