San Francisco’s Curran Theatre will host the national tour of the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen as part of its 2018 season, which includes the previously announced world-premiere musical Head Over Heels.

The new musical featuring the songs of the Go-Go’s will launch the Curran season April 10–May 6, and has its eyes on a Broadway run to follow. Head Over Heels is targeting a Broadway arrival during the 2018–2019 season, with the Hudson Theatre its likely home.

The musical, inspired by Philip Sidney’s 16th century Arcadia, features a book by James Magruder (adapted from Jeff Whitty’s original material from the 2015 world premiere at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival). Michael Mayer will direct.

MacArthur Genius Taylor Mac will bring Taylor Mac’s Holiday Sauce to the Curran November 11–December 1. The evening is the latest installment in Mac’s epic work A 24-Decade History of Popular Music. Mac again collaborates with Machine Dazzle and music director Matt Ray for the evening that will “reframe the songs you love and the holidays you hate.”

Soft Power, the new musical collaboration between Tony winners David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori, will play the Curran June 20–July 8 following a world premiere at The Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles this spring.

According to the Curran, the genre-bending work “rewinds our recent political history and plays it back through a Chinese lens: a future, beloved East-meets-West musical. A Chinese executive in 2016 America finds himself falling in love with a good-hearted U.S. leader, as the power balance between their two countries starts to shift and a new world order arrives.” The production will be directed by Leigh Silverman with choreography by The Great Comet Tony nominee Sam Pinkleton.

The season will close with the national tour of the Tony-winning Pasek and Paul hit Dear Evan Hansen, which will play San Francisco December 5–30.
