Tony Award winner Rachel Bay Jones has been cast in the CBS pilot God Friended Me, according to Variety. The Dear Evan Hansen star will guest on the pilot and return in a recurring role if the series is picked up.
God Friended Me, from Executive Producer Greg Berlanti (Riverdale, The Flash, Supergirl), follows Miles, a staunch atheist whose worldview is subverted when God friends him on Facebook. Led by Brandon Michael Hall as Miles, the cast also includes Violett Beanae, Suraj Sharma, Javicia Leslie, Flor De Liz Perez, Tara Pacheco, and Tony nominee Joe Morton.
Jones originated the role of Evan's mom Heidi in the Dear Evan Hansen out-of-town tryout in Washington, D.C., as well as Off-Broadway at Second Stage prior to its Broadway transfer.
She made her Broadway debut in Meet Me in St. Louis and returned to New York as part of the 2009 revival of Hair, directed by Diane Paulus. She also appeared in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and reunited with Paulus for the 2013 revival of Pippin.
