News Debbie Allen Will Be Honored By NYC Dance Alliance Foundation Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Debbie Allen (West Side Story, Sweet Charity) will be honored by NYC Dance Alliance Foundation at its Bright Lights Shining Stars Gala on Sept. 27.

Allen will be presented with the Ambassador for the Arts Award, which was previously presented to Catherine Zeta-Jones and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Allen is best known for her performances as Anita in West Side Story and Charity Hope Valentine in Sweet Charity on Broadway, and as Lydia Grant on "Fame." She is a member of the President's Committee for the Arts and Humanities, and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Bright Lights Shining Stars Gala will serve as a fundraiser for the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation, which has provided over $15 million in college scholarships for young dancers across the country. The evening will include performances from the Broadway and dance communities, as well as a special tribute to Allen.
