Classic Arts News Deborah Voigt to Appear on 60 Minutes January 29 Soprano Deborah Voigt will be the subject of a profile on the CBS television program 60 Minutes on January 29.
According to Voigt's publicist, the segment includes clips of the singer in performance as well as an interview, conducted by CBS's Bob Simon, in which she discusses her personal life and career.

A description of the program on the CBS News web site suggests that it will focus, at least in part, on Voigt's decision to undergo gastric-bypass surgery in June 2004 and the dramatic weight loss that followed. (The description also says that Voigt underwent the surgery because she was denied the chance to sing in a production at the Royal Opera due to her weight; in fact, the singer has said publicly on more than one occasion that she decided to have the surgery before that much-publicized incident.)

Voigt's upcoming roles include Leonora in Verdi's La forza del destino at the Metropolitan Opera. Performances begin February 20.

60 Minutes begins at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Check local listings.
