Carol Wilson, who is currently singing the Marschallin at Germany's Theatre Aachen, has agreed to step in for Voigt at Vancouver Opera's first-ever performances of Rosenkavalier, on October 16, 19, 21, and 23.
Voigt's is well known for her performances of Strauss, particularly of Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos, and the opera world has eagerly awaited her first performances as the Marschallin, one of the composer's greatest‹and most challenging ‹roles. She is also scheduled to perform the role at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in January and at the Vienna State Opera in May, but her performances in Vancouver would have given her a final run-through, of sorts, on a less prominent stage.
