Debra Winger, who made her Broadway debut opposite Patti LuPone in The Anarchist, and Tony-winning actor and playwright Tracy Letts (August: Osage County, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) are in final negotiations to play husband and wife in the new film The Lovers, according to Deadline.com.

Financed, produced and distributed by A24, filming is expected to begin next month. Azazel Jacobs will direct his own screenplay.

This contemporary take on marriage, according to the industry website, “is about a relationship gone bitterly bad between Michael and Mary; both have lovers who want them to get out of their marriage. However, when they sit down to call it quits, they find themselves suddenly, unexpectedly and even awkwardly falling back in love again.”

Producers are Ben LeClair and Chris Stinson.
