News Dee Dee Bridgewater Hits the Apollo Stage for New Orleans Jazz Masquerade Concert Tonight In celebration of Halloween, Harlem's Apollo Theater presents The New Orleans Jazz Masquerade — starring Grammy-winning trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, Jr., Tony-winning jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra — Oct. 31.

Bridgewater, whose Broadway credits include The Wiz and The 1940's Radio Hour, recently released a duets album with Mayfield titled "Dee Dee's Feather's." The compilation is an homage to the people and culture of New Orleans in recognition of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The Apollo concert, which is masquerade-themed, marks the first time the album's songs are being performed in New York. An after-party will feature performances by the eight-piece brass funk band the Brass-A-Holics.

The weekend programming also includes an afternoon workshop of mask and music making with designer Vicki Fremont and musician Kevin Hylton; a traditional New Orleans second line, as part of the Apollo Education Family Workshop series; and an Apollo School Day Live for school children.
