News Dee Hoty Is Mame at Seattle's 5th Avenue Beginning Feb. 9 Broadway actress Dee Hoty stars opposite Richard White in The 5th Avenue Theatre's Mame, which begins performances at the Seattle venue Feb. 9.

David Armstrong (5th Ave's Sweeney Todd, Company) directs the musical with choreography by Dannul Dailey. The show will officially open Feb. 14 for a run through March 2.

Mame "tells the hilarious story of an eccentric socialite who finds her madcap Manhattan lifestyle turned upside down when she is appointed guardian of her orphaned nephew," according to show notes. "Auntie Mame takes him on one whirlwind adventure after another, proving that 'life is a banquet.'"

Hoty (as Mame Dennis) and White (as Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside) lead a cast of 39 in a production that boasts "more than 275 extravagant costumes, designed by 2006 Tony Award winner Gregg Barnes," according to a press announcement.

The ensemble also features Carol Swarbrick (as Vera Charles), 12-year-old Nick Robinson (young Patrick Dennis), Kat Ramsburg (Agnes Gooch), Ben Gonio (Ito), Seán G. Griffin (Dwight Babcock), Laura Kenny (Mother Burnside), Michael Winters (Mr. Upson), Taryn Darr (Gloria Upson), Matt Owen (older Patrick Dennis), Timothy McCuen Piggee (Lindsay Woolsey) and Karen Skrinde (Sally Cato).

Rounding out the cast are David Alewine, Jeffrey Alewine, Greg McCormick Allen, Nicholas Beach, Gabe Corey, Michael Ericson, Meaghan Foy, Kristin Gaetz, Krista Gibbon, Timothy Gleason, Bryce Henry, Diana Huey, Brittany Jamieson, Anders Ledell, Nikki Long, Lauralyn McClelland, Cheryl Massey-Peters, Trina Mills, Kasey Nusbickel, Lindsay Powers, Heather Roberts, John David Scott, Jenny Singer, Pamela Turpen, Luke Vroman and Thaddeus Wilson. The musical was penned by composer-lyricist Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!; La Cage aux Folles) with a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee (who wrote the play Auntie Mame, based on Patrick Dennis' novel of the same name). The musical opened on Broadway in 1966 with Angela Lansbury and Beatrice Arthur. Lucille Ball starred in the 1974 film version.

Both 5th Ave veterans, Hoty starred as Reno Sweeney in 2000's Anything Goes and this season's Lone Star Love, while White played in the company's Phantom (1991) and The Desert Song (1990).

Hoty is known for her Broadway turns in Footloose, Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public and Will Rogers Follies — all three earned her Tony Award nominations. Other credits include Broadway's City of Angels, Mamma Mia!, Me and My Girl, Big River and Off-Broadway's The Audience, Personals, Vanities and Forbidden Broadway. She previously starred in Mame at the St. Louis Muny.

White is perhaps best known as the voice of Gaston in the Disney film "Beauty and the Beast." The actor made his Broadway debut in the revival of The Most Happy Fella and has also appeared in New York revivals of Brigadoon and South Pacific. Other credits include Sayonara, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the new musical Zorro and the national tour of Camelot.

David Holcenberg (Mamma Mia, Seussical) serves as the conductor/ musical director. The design team for Mame features Walt Spangler (set), Tom Sturge (lighting), Gregg Barnes (costume), Mary Pyanowski (hair/make-up) and Ken Travis (sound). Jeffrey K. Hanson is the production stage manager.
