The recording, which includes two CDs and one DVD, features the original 1984 concept recording of the musical, which was penned by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice. The remastered and expanded edition includes three previously unreleased bonus tracks as well as a DVD featuring a documentary and five video clips of songs from the album.

The original recording boasts the vocal talents of Barbara Dickson, Murray Head, Tommy Körberg, Elaine Paige, Denis Quilley and Bjorn Skifs.

The original double album sold two million copies and spawned the international hit singles "I Know Him So Well" and "One Night In Bangkok." A London staging and subsequent Broadway production followed.
