Denver Center Adds New Comedy Sunsets and Margaritas to 2008-09 Season

News   Denver Center Adds New Comedy Sunsets and Margaritas to 2008-09 Season Sunsets and Margaritas, José Cruz González's new comedy about three generations of a Mexican-American family, will get its world premiere by Denver Center Theatre Company in 2009, artistic director Kent Thompson announced.

From the author of September Shoes, Sunsets and Margaritas will fill the previous "to be announced" slot April 3-May 16, 2009, in The Ricketson Theatre at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The playwright "met with Latino focus groups throughout Colorado to research his commission from the Denver Center's nationally acclaimed New Play Development Program to find out what was on the minds of people from the community," according to DCTC. "Sunsets and Margaritas was further developed in two staged readings in Denver over the last year."

In the play, "three generations of a Mexican-American family are plunged into comic crisis when patriarch Candelario starts to lose his grip. The conservative Serrano family's values are abandoned by an all-too-assimilated younger generation, and the appearance of a mysterious, ageless woman sends the family spinning comically out of control."
