King replaces Michael Kenneth Williams, who has left the production "due to personal reasons," according to a press statement. King will play the role of Lucian, the founding father of the House of Light. Directed by Tina Landau, Wig Out! previews will begin at the Off-Broadway venue Sept. 10 with an official opening scheduled for Sept. 30. The cast also includes the previously announced Jas Anderson, Daniel T. Booth (a.k.a. Sweetie), Joshua Cruz, Sean Patrick Doyle, McKenzie Frye, Nathan Lee Graham, Angela Grovey, Andre Holland, Rebecca Naomi Jones and Clifton Oliver.
Wig Out!, according to press notes, is "a fierce and intoxicating new play which tells of two competing drag houses, and the loves, loyalties, and dreams within each that draw their members together and apart."
Erik King has also appeared on screen in "Oz," "The District," "National Treasure," "Ice Princess" and "Desperate Measures."
The design team features James Schuette (scenic), Toni-Leslie James (costumes), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting), Robert Kaplowitz (sound) and Wendy Parson (hair, wig and make-up).
