American Idol finalists and real-life couple Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young gave a special presentation of the new musical Hit Her With the Skates October 16 at Bowlmor Times Square. The show, which played a sold-out run at Hamilton Stage in New Jersey last spring, is billed as a mix of Grease, Hairspray, and Xanadu. They were joined by veteran cast members Amy Toporek and Madeline Fansler.
Hit Her With the Skates features book and lyrics by Christine Rea, music and lyrics by Rick Briskin, and direction by Michael Schiralli.
Hit Her With the Skates takes place in 1994 and follows pop/rock star Jaqueline Miller, who is returning to her hometown on the heels of her first national tour to kick off the re-opening of her beloved roller rink, Windy City Skates. When complications hit her head on, Jacqueline comes face-to-face with her 12-year-old self and all the things she learned during the golden age of skating: the '70s.
DeGarmo and Young were not part of the New Jersey production.
