Having enjoyed a nearly $1 billion box office take with a part-live/part-CGI adaptation of its animated film musical The Jungle Book and having recently announced similar adaptations of Mulan and The Lion King, Disney has put yet another of its 1990s hits in the live-remake pipeline: Aladdin, according to a report on Deadline.com.

The trade magazine reports that Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes) is in talks to direct the film with a new script being provided by John August (Big Fish).

No timetable for the remake's shooting premiere was reported, nor was word on how much if any of the current live-action Broadway version of Aladdin would be incorporated.

Among Disney films with lots of Broadway talent and firm dates on the horizon: Beauty and the Beast on March 17, 2017 and Mary Poppins Returns on December 25, 2018.
