News Diversionary Theatre to Present First Regional Production of Yank! The new musical Yank!, recently seen at Brooklyn's Gallery Players, will be the first production of San Diego's Diversionary Theatre's 2008-2009 season.

The July 10-Aug. 10 staging will mark the regional premiere for the musical penned by David and Joe Zellnik.

Igor Goldin, who directed the Brooklyn staging, will helm the Diversionary production; he will also re-create Jeffry Denman's orginal choreography. Amy Dalton will be the musical director.

Casting will be announced at a later date. Yank! will also be an official event of San Diego LGBT Pride (July 19-20).

In a statement Diversionary executive and artistic director Dan Kirsch said, "We are very excited to welcome David, Joe and Igor to San Diego and to Diversionary. We are very honored that the New York creative team has chosen Diversionary for their first full regional production."

Yank takes its title from the World War II publication Yank Magazine. The musical — with book and lyrics by David Zellnik and music by Joe Zellnik — is described as such: "Yank! tells the story of a war reporter named Stu and an army private named Mitch, who fall in love and struggle to survive in a time and place where the odds are stacked against them. Intelligent and impassioned, suffused with songs in swing, big band and boogie-woogie styles, the show explores the stories that don't get told in wartime, and how WWII became a great catalyst in bringing gay men and women together." The Diversionary Theatre is located at 4545 Park Boulevard in San Diego, CA. Tickets are available by calling (619) 220-0097 or by visiting www.diversionary.org.
