Presented Jan. 29 and 30 at 8 PM at the Newport Performing Arts Center in Manila, the concerts feature original Miss Saigon star Salonga, Australian leading man David Harris and Marie Zamora, who originated the role of Cosette in the original Paris production of Les Misérables.
Presenters also reached out to international artists who have performed in Miss Saigon and Les Misérables to join them for the benefit that features the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra and a 100-member choir, under the musical direction of Gerard Salonga.
The Manila concerts mark the first time Do You Hear the People Sing? has been staged as a benefit. The goal, according to presenters, is to build 200 homes ravaged by the typhoon through Habitat for Humanity Philippines. The concert has been presented across the U.S. and the globe.
