Starring opposite West will be Carly Bawden as Eliza Doolittle. The production is directed by the Crucible's artistic director Daniel Evans.
West returns has previously played Iago in Othello at the Crucible, also directed by Evans. Other theatre work includes Butley (Duchess Theatre), Life is a Dream (Donmar Warehouse), Rock 'n' Roll (Duke of York's Theatre), The Voysey Inheritance (National Theatre), As You Like It (Wyndham's Theatre) and Design for Living (Broadway).
Bawden is currently appearing in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in Kensington Gardens. Other theatre work includes Pippin (Menier Chocolate Factory) and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Gielgud Theatre).
In further casting news at Sheffield, the opening production of the fall season Macbeth, also directed by Evans which begins performances Sept. 5 prior to an official opening Sept. 10 for a run through Oct. 6, will feature Geoffrey Streatfeild in the title role and Claudie Blakely as Lady Macbeth. They are joined by Ross Anderson, John Dougall, Joseph Drake, David Ganly, David Hounslow, Andrew Jarvis, Victoria Lennox, Christopher Logan, Sophie Roberts, Marlene Sidaway, Sandra Voe and Ashley Zhangazha.
The U.K. regional premiere of Penelope Skinner's The Village Bike, which begins performances in the Crucible Studio Sept. 13 prior to an official opening Sept. 18 for a run through Oct. 6, will feature David Bark-Jones, Amy Cudden Caroline Harker, Christopher Harper, Sean Mackenzie and Alice Selwyn under the direction of Jonathan Humphreys.
