The Lincoln Center Theater’s Off-Broadway production of Pipeline officially opens July 10 in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Dominique Morisseau’s newest play looks at the relationship between an inner-city public high school teacher, played by Karen Pittman (Disgraced), and her only son, played by Namir Smallwood (The Hot L Baltimore).

Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, Pipeline began performances June 15. Completing the cast are Tasha Lawrence, Morocco Omari, Jaime Lincoln Smith, and Heather Velazquez.

Here’s how LCT outlines the play: “In Dominique Morisseau’s Pipeline, Nya Joseph is a dedicated, inner-city public high school teacher who is committed to her students' achievement, while she sends her only son, Omari, to a private boarding school. When Omari is involved in a controversial incident which threatens him with expulsion from his school, Nya is forced to reconcile Omari’s rage and her own parental decisions, as she rallies to save her son.“

The production features sets by Matt Saunders, costumes by Montana Blanco, lighting by Yi Zhao, sound by Justin Ellington, and projections by Hannah Wasileski.

Morisseau’s plays include Skeleton Crew, which played an acclaimed engagement at the Atlantic Theater Company, as well as Paradise Blue, Detroit ’67, Sunset Baby, Blood at the Root, and Follow Me To Nellie’s.
