According to the New York Post, Tony-winning director Michael Mayer (American Idiot, Spring Awakening) is at the helm and has a stripped-down version of the show in mind that focuses on the characters and the songs.
Sunset Boulevard features music by Lloyd Webber with a book and lyrics by Christopher Hampton and Don Black. The original production opened on Broadway in November 1994 and took home seven 1995 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Murphy is a Tony winner for her performances in The King and I and Passion. She has been Tony-nominated for her performances in Wonderful Town, Lovemusik and The People in the Picture.

The production will include Bernstein’s incidental music for Lillian Hellman’s adaptation of The Lark, and Menotti’s The Unicorn, The Gorgon, and The Manticore.
Based on the novel and film by Frank Cottrell Boyce, the new musical will reunite Guettel with Tony-winning Light in the Piazza director Bartlett Sher.
