Donna Murphy, Tony-winning star of the current hit King and I revival, will be taking a two-week break from the musical in November.
According to press representative Susanne Tighe, Murphy will be on vacation from the show from Nov. 5-17; understudy Barbara McCulloh will play the role of Anna Leonowens in the interim. Murphy, who had won a Tony as Best Actress in a Musical for Passion only two years earlier, was a surprise winner this year for King when it was assumed the award would go to Julie Andrews, despite the Victor/Victoria star's renunciation of her nomination.
At this point, vacation dates for Murphy's co-star, Lou Diamond Phillips, have not been announced.
The two stars have one year contracts with the show, and tickets are currently on sale through March 30 by calling (212) 307-4100.
