Two-time Tony Award winner Donna Murphy, who takes on the role of Dolly Gallagher Levi in the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! at select performances (including all Tuesday evenings), will take her final trip down the Harmonia Gardens staircase in January.
Murphy will play her final performance January 9, 2018—the Tuesday before Tony winner Bette Midler's last bow on January 14. Bernadette Peters, who assumes the role beginning January 20, will play all eight shows a week.
After her first performance in the production June 13 (the first audience the show welcomed following the Tony Awards), Murphy received critical acclaim for her interpretation of the role, which showcased a classic Broadway timbre and vocal ornamentation. She has since gone on to take center stage every Tuesday evening, as well as multiple week-long engagements (including currently, through September 10).
A Tony winner for The King and I and Passion, Murphy last appeared on Broadway in The People in the Picture, which earned her her fifth Tony nomination. Her additional stage credits include Lovemusik and Wonderful Town on Broadway and Into the Woods at the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park, in which she played the Witch—the role originated by Dolly-bound Peters.
