The Dora Awards, which annually honor excellence in Toronto’s professional theatre community, are given out at a gala ceremony at the Bluma Appel Theatre, hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus of the National Theatre of the World.

Nominations were announced by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts June 4. The theatrical company Buddies in Bad Times received 15 nominations, followed by Tarragon Theatre with 13 nominations in the General Theatre category.

Modern Times Theatre received eight nominations in the Independent Theatre category, and Roseneath Theatre headed the Theatre for Young Audiences division with eight nominations. Danceworks earned eight nominations in the Dance division.

Three shows in the Musical Theatre category earned nine nominations each: the Mirvish production of The Wizard of Oz, Theatre 20's Bloodless and Young People’s Theatre's Cinderella.

The Canadian Opera Company received a total of 25 nominations: 16 in the Opera category and nine in the Musical Theatre category.

Among the most honored shows were Arigato, Tokyo (Buddies in Bad Times), The Lesson (Modern Times), The Little Years (Tarragon Theatre), Obaaberima (Buddies in Bad Times), Mister Marmalade (Outside the March) and The War of 1812 (VideoCabaret).
