Doubt Playwright Developing Miniseries for HBO | Playbill

News Doubt Playwright Developing Miniseries for HBO According to the L.A. Times, Tony Award-winning Doubt playwright John Patrick Shanley is developing a miniseries for HBO based on Beth Macy's nonfiction book "Factory Man."

According to Deadline, Tom Hanks is set to produce the project.

"Factory Man," which tells the story of the Bassett family, is described by Deadline as such: "Throughout much of the 20th century, generations of the family oversaw the rise of their furniture manufacturing company, Bassett Furniture, the biggest employer in their Virginia hometown. But with the onset of the 21st century, global capitalism threatened the future of the company, and the family scion, John Bassett III, was forced to take on China — as well as his own industry — in order to keep his family’s legacy alive."

Casting and premiere dates have not yet been announced for "Factory Man."

Shanley's Outside Mullingar premiered on Broadway in 2014 and starred Debra Messing in her Broadway debut. His other works include "Moonstruck," Sailor's Song, "Live from Baghdad" and more.
