Beane (Lysistrata Jones, Sister Act, Xanadu, The Little Dog Laughed) would pen the book for the musical project, about the life of pianist Liberace and his secret affair with Scott Thorson.

As previously reported, Weintraub has Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman in mind for the project, although no director is attached.

"Behind the Candelabra," which starred Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival May 21 and aired on HBO May 26. The film was adapted from Thorson's memoir "Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace" by Richard LaGravenese — who is directing the upcoming film adaptation of The Last Five Years — and featured music by the late Marvin Hamlisch.

The Post also reports that producer and lyricist Barbara Carole Sickmen is developing Liberace: I'll Be Seeing You..., which has been authorized by Liberace's estate and is also aiming for a Broadway bow. The musical will feature music by composer Johnny Rodgers and a book by Roger O. Hirson (Pippin).

The musical, according to Sickmen, portrays Liberace in a "truthful and tasteful manner," but takes a dark turn in the second act when Liberace, during a libel trial, is forced to deny his homosexuality.

No official announcement about a Broadway production of either project has been made.
